I actually went into the boy's room late last night and woke him up to tell him that Obama won, "We did it! He won! Obama won! Now go back to sleep...".
Then "the dude" and I sat on the sofa for hours, amazed as the electoral votes kept pouring in. Ohio, Nevada! Nevada? Florida, and so on.
I thought that McCain gave a gracious speech, and that his booing supporters were assholes.
Obama's speech was spot on, and several times had me in goosebumps. It made me feel patriotic for the first time in my life. I know that this man is no savior, and that he faces challenges that are not going to be pretty. I know that this man is going to piss many people off before he gets the job done. I know that his term(s)in office are not going to be a vacation for our country. But I believe that he has the power to rally people, and to make us all want to work together for a change. I'm ready to give him a chance.
I am furious in regard to California's Prop 8 banning same-sex marriage. I am furious at the 562 Utah residents that donated money to help make Prop 8 happen.
But, Proposition 8 only won by less than 10%. I am holding out faith that someday soon we will outnumber the conservative douchbags and people can love and marry whomever they want. I would love for my son to be able to tell his children stories about..."When I was little, two men or two women couldn't marry each other! Isn't that crazy?!" just like I tell him now, "Less than 100 years ago, women couldn't vote. And 50 years ago African American people couldn't sit with white people at a restaurant or on a bus! Isn't that crazy!?". Now look at us. There is still hope.
Change is coming.

It's proof that "those people" get shit done. I swear, "they" alone make up the (national support of) $75 million dollars.
It really does make me wonder what would happen if their prophet told them to jump off a cliff. Hopefully, he would let that commandment ride for about a week, get rid of everyone stupid enough to do it, then say "I was kidding, I really needed to get rid of some people. Here is the real plan for my er God's church -- the Church of Partyin' Down!!"
The donation totals of the first two pages of Utah residents is close to 2 million dollars. Millions and millions of dollars that could have been used for good, used to hold people down. I cannot stomach that.
I'm just really happy Mitt didn't get the nomination, and they were all so lukewarm about McCain.
I mean "they".
Ya Basta!

Ya basta.
Ironically enough......the greater part of the the "Latino" voting population in California voted in favor of Prop 8.
http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/11/06/espuelas.prop.eight/index.html
5.4 million people in CA supported Prop 8. If you assume all McCain supporters voted in favor of Prop 8 (which is almost certainly incorrect), that accounts for 3.87 million YES votes. This leaves 1.53 million YES votes.
Obama (another presidential candidate against gay marriage) scored 6.34 million votes in California. Thus, at a bare minimum, 25% of Obama supporters voted YES on Prop 8. (The real number is likely higher).
So, I don't think this is an issue of outnumbering the conservatives. California has voted liberal/democrat by an overwhelming margin for the last 16 years. Prop 8 in California shows that many people who vote democrat/liberal are also opposed to gay marriage.
True. Very true. I've actually been unpleasantly surprised by several people over the past couple of months in regard to Prop 8. One such person (a supposed liberal) told me that he wasn't sure how he would vote because of religious morals. This person has never shown any morals yet feels like he can judge what is moral for other people....
I just see it as a civil liberty. I guess I just wish that everyone else would too.
